Color Switch: Cheats and Tips

A brand new, colorful and challenging task awaits in Color Switch! Can you get the ball past numerous shapes and colors, which act as obstacles? Just make sure you keep tapping, activating the color switches and collecting stars to beat the highscores!

Color Switch is a new score based challenge game, created and released by Fortafy Games. The developer is quite new on the scene, having only two games so far, the first being the not so successful Thug Worm during 2016.

Color Switch is rated 4.4/5 stars on the Google Play Store, while at the same time it enjoys a 4.5/5 stars rating on the Apple App Store in 2016. The game is released under the name of Samuel Ratumaitakuvi on the App Store, but it’s the exact same version as on Android. Combined through the two stores the game has already reached over a million downloads in a short time since its release, and it’s just skyrocketing even higher. Is it as addicting as expected? Let’s find out!

About Color Switch

Color Switch is one of those games that are meant to be played to push your limits and test your skills. It’s a game that is frustrating at first, but once you get better at it, it becomes an enjoyable challenge. The simplistic artstyle and gameplay both accomodate this design decision, which might be a recipe for an addicting game.

But what exactly is this game? It’s quite simple, actually: You control a ball, which can be moved upwards by tapping on the screen repeatedly. One tap will give it a small boost, then it will fall back down, but tapping again and again will keep the ball moving for as long as you continue doing so. The trick comes in the fact that there are obstacles ahead, and you have to pass through them unharmed.

Each obstacle is made up of one or multiple types of shapes, such as a circle, square, triangle, a bunch of lines, a cross or dots. Parts of each of these shapes are also colored in one of four colors: red, yellow, purple and light blue. Your ball also has a single color, but it doesn’t stay the same for long, as you must move it through color switches after passing each shape obstacle. These color switches then change the ball’s color to another random one of the four possible ones, which will allow it to pass through the same colored parts of obstacles.

Your goal in Color Switch is to collect as many stars as possible, which will give you a score based on how many you got before failing by allowing the ball fall back down, or by touching parts of an obstacles that is differently colored than the ball. The stars are always located in the middle of shapes or in between them, therefore passing through them is required to gather stars and score points.

But it’s not as easy as it might sound at first, as each shape will also constantly turn or move, and some obstacles even contain multiple shapes, each turning or moving at different speeds. Perfect timing and patience are required to be successful at this challenging title.

While the game has no in-app purchases or currencies of any kind, it features global leaderboards, where you can see the highest scores ever, and use it as a motivation to do better. Color Switch supposedly also has achievements, but these don’t work at the moment. What works though are ads, and these appear as pop-in ads after every 6th or 7th retry, but it only takes a second to quit out of them.

Cheats & Tips for Color Switch

Since Color Switch features no in-app purchases or any currency, cheats are limited to ones that relate to the gameplay. It might be hard to find cheats for such a game, but I’m here to give you some hints, and also to provide tips and tricks that might help get your highscore even higher!

Probably one of the easiest cheats you will want to try in this game is the ability to stay down at the beginning of each score beating attempt. When you start a new attempt, you don’t have to continously keep the ball in the air as is the case over 1 score. Until you pass the first obstacle, you can just let the ball fall down and stay put at the bottom of the device, then move it up again. This might not be intentional and be a bug, but use this trick to give yourself time to prepare!

Color Switch: Cheats & Tips

This is a game that will certainly annoy you in the beginning, but don’t give up! Instead, try to learn the patterns of the obstacles, as they will reappear randomly. Each time you play the game the obstacles will be differently placed, but there is a finite number of them, so knowing what to expect later on can be useful.

Another great tip to keep in mind in Color Switch is that you can keep the ball in the air for as long as you want between obstacles, so you can wait for the perfect time to advance. Don’t rush it, and instead try to wait for the perfect opportunity to move. This is especially important in cases where there are two obstacles blocking the way, but each moves at a different speed.

Color Switch Review

Color Switch is just like those games that I tend to love to no end. It has a simplistic artstyle that fits on mobile devices perfectly. It also has gameplay that is easy to get into, but while remaining highly challenging at the same time.

To be honest, during the first 15 or so minutes I was really frustrated and annoyed with this game, as I failed to move past score 3 for a time that seemed much longer than it should have been. The general gameplay mechanic of tapping the ball and keeping it in the air constantly is not as easy as one might think just by looking at the screenshots, and it requires a good feel for timing to master. Then the fact that the ball changes colors and can’t pass through differently colored obstacles makes it even trickier, but also more fun.

It took me around 30 minutes to feel more eased into the experience, and I managed to get over 10 score by this time. It felt awesome when I finally reached just 8 points, as it was such a change from the struggle at the beginning. After passing the one hour mark, I was already reaching for the 20s of points. I ended up with 25, and while it might not sound like much, it’s quite a feat in the tricky title that is Color Switch.

The gameplay of color switching and having to think through each obstacle might seem familiar on a first sight, but the gameplay feels unique and not similar to any other game that I know of. Possibly the only negative I can think of are the ads, although they are not as frequent as they could be, but it’s still a little annoying to see them time after time.

While there might be experiences close to this, the color changing, ball tapping and fast moving gameplay of Color Switch is something that you definitely have to try, especially if you love these ‘so frustrating it’s good’ games! Don’t forget to challenge your friends as well, as this can be a great game to show off your skills!

Ratings

Artwork: The artwork of Color Switch gets an 8/10. This is a game that doesn’t try to impress with realistic graphics or brand new artstyles, it just aims for one of the simplest designs possible, and pulls it off. This art just accomodates the gameplay in the right way, making this feel like an experience covered from all sides.

Music & SFX: The music and SFX gets a 8/10 from me. While the fast paced, minimalistic electronic music of the game is quite addicting to listen to, I found it to be quite distracting, as it messes up my rythm of taps. It’s not a truly negative thing, but once I turned the music off my scores just skyrocketed. The SFX are fantastic, especially as collecting stars feels like a real accomplishment just by listening to the sounds they make.

Story & Originality: I give the originality of Color Switch an 8/10. This is a pretty unique idea, which might have been inspired by other score based challenge games with minimalistic design. Still, the gameplay mechanic itself feels fresh and brand new, which is a big positive.

General Gameplay: As for the general gameplay, I must give it an 8/10. The gameplay is highly addicting, even though it can feel annoying at first. But once you get to know the ins and outs of it, the game will turn from a struggle into a fun challenging experience. The only negative factors are the ads, which can feel to appear too often, as attempts in this game don’t last too long, and passing 6 attempts to an ad only takes 1 or 2 minutes at most.

Addictiveness: For the addictiveness factor of the game, it gets a 9/10. If this game has to be described by a word, that would definitely be addicting. You just want to go back and beat your latest highscore and end up on the leaderboards, even though you know it won’t be easy. It’s great value for the long run, and once they patch in the achievements it will be even better.
